Microsoft’s Gov2Social Directory Doubles in Size and Adoption

Silver Spring, MD (July 23, 2010) – The Microsoft Gov2Social directory, which enables state-by-state search of all government entities and their social media activities, has doubled in size and seen rapid adoption since its creation just three months ago.  Strategic Communications Group (Strategic) provides strategic counsel and social media support services to Microsoft as part of its Gov2Social initiative.

Launched at the end of April with exactly 400 contacts, the directory has doubled to over 800 contacts in all fifty states. This validates both the demand for social media adoption in the government, and the need for one place with the aggregated social media information for government entities.

“We are excited to have worked with Microsoft to launch Gov2Social,” said Shany Seawright, managing director at Strategic. “Strategic has long felt that social media is the future for both the private and public sector for interacting with stakeholders, and the rapid adoption and expansion of Gov2Social is further validation of that theory.”

Gov2Social is an extension of the company’s integrated social media program, Bright Side of Government, which was created to provide a community where Microsoft’s state and local customers could connect and virally share best practices and examples of how they saved money in the face of ongoing economic hardships.

The Bright Side of Government community became so popular, that it soon became clear that a larger database was needed where state and local government organizations, employees and elected officials could find each other and share information. Microsoft responded with the creation of Gov2Social, which remains the first and only government social media directory built on the Microsoft Azure platform.
