Associate/Senior Associate, Public Relations

Posted November 3, 2008

We are currently seeking experienced and talented public relations professionals to manage accounts and help lead the agency in its growth.

Responsibilities
  • Execute all tactical components of an integrated public relations and business development program as directed by Managing Director and/or Director. These may include corporate communications and PR counsel; writing, editing, proofreading; media relations; industry analyst communications; product promotion and reviews; executive visibility and thought leadership; blog relations; and other marketing communications related activities.
  • Establish, maintain and cultivate relationship with client executives to ensure a high level of responsive customer service, as well as positive work environment for the agency’s team. Provide account management support as needed, to ensure seamless communications with clients regarding tactical programs and results. This may include coverage reports, weekly and monthly reports, memos among other activities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the industry and client’s marketplace by researching competitors, trends and identifying latest breaking news for rapid response programs. Be a role model for others in the organization through commitment to excellence and professionalism.
  • Research, review and evaluate information about a prospect, its markets of focus, product and/or service offerings, competitive environment, and PR and marketing communications requirements.
  • Strategize, review and edit RFP responses, proposals and other prospect communications.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate must have a bachelor’s degree, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of PR, marketing or communications experience for the associate position, and 5-7 years for senior associates. Previous agency or corporate communications experience preferred. You don’t have to be a software developer or electrical engineer, but you need a basic understanding of technology—and a superior understanding of how to translate it into business or consumer value.

Must have strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce press releases, case studies, bylines and other materials. You’ll also need to provide true PR counsel to clients. We don’t just churn out press releases, we bring broad market expertise and help our clients drive PR results. You’ll also need to manage your time against budgets for multiple clients.

Benefits

If it sounds like we expect a lot, we do. But then, in addition to excellent benefits and competitive salaries with bonuses, we offer a lot in return:

  • A clear career path. Associate, Senior Associate, Director, Managing Director. Clear enough for now? More details when we talk.
  • Training and professional development. We bring in renowned speakers—influential journalists, analysts, publishers, and senior corporate executives —to address the company. We send our people to conferences and seminars. We host monthly lunches to discuss timely and relevant business books.
  • A flexible work environment. We respect the balance of work and your personal life. For example, while associates typically work in the office, senior associates and execs set their own schedules and may work in the office, at home, at Starbucks, or wherever. Each team meets in person twice a month to share information and inspiration (and occasionally exasperation).
  • Two offices. In Silver Spring, MD, and Tysons Corner, VA. If you don’t know the Washington metro area, that saves you from crossing the Potomac River on the beltway, an activity that can take several years off your life.

In short, Strategic gives you everything you need to do great work for great clients, then gets out of your way.
